Arise and Shine Forth!

My cousin Kellie calls me "Mountain Momma." I'm trying to live up to that title. : )
Yesterday, a friend and I took our long run to the mountains in Hatcher Pass. I am helping my friend train for her first marathon while I train for my second marathon. The sun was shining bright. The temperature felt warm, 40° to be exact. We started out on the Gold Mint trail until it got a little slushy from the melting snow. We enjoyed seeing several Ptarmigan close by the trail. The skies were blue and the mountains stood as an emblem of strength all around us. We ran for two hours. We didn't want to leave the beautiful surroundings. We ran uphill for 30 minutes after we came back to the start of the Gold Mint trail. Then, we enjoyed a speedy journey back to the car as we ran downhill.

"Arise and Shine Forth" is the scripture theme for the youth of the church this year. As one of the Young Women leaders in our ward, I have been pondering this scripture. I have taken it on as my personal theme for the year. I want to "arise and shine forth" every day. I want to let my light shine. As I was climbing/running the hills in the mountains yesterday, the difficulty level increased as we kept going up. I had to go 'mental.' I told myself: "arise and shine forth. Don't give up, you're almost to the top. Press on. Arise! "

It worked. So, every morning when it's time to wake up or when the hills of life cause us to struggle, may we all say: "Arise and shine forth that our light may be a standard to the nations." (Doctrine and Covenants 115:5.)

To quote President Hinckley: It is time to: "stand a little taller and be a little better."

Here I am trying to stand a little taller. ; )

These pictures were taken at the top of our hill run by my running buddy
Like the Yoga pose?

Mountain Momma

I love the mountains.

Wasn't ready for this pic to be taken, but I like the angle of the mts.

Dad and I were just talking about how we love to hike around the mountains in Hatcher pass. It is one of the places in Alaska I really miss. It became our go-to place when we moved to Wasilla. We've been walking the hills and valleys in New Brunswick (sometimes uphill both ways) so we will be ready for Hatcher pass again in the fall.

I am strengthened by your faith Kary...the way you practice what you preach and how your determination and love of the Gospel have lifted you up and made you strong.

I will try using "arise and shine forth" when the hills get a little steep around here. If you can do it, I can do it. (See what you do for me?)

Love you so much, and can't wait to see you.

Your Mom
