Last month, we had Spring Break. We stayed at Mom and Dad's place in Anchorage for a few nights while car shopping (to replace the stolen Jeep) and go exploring on some trails with the kids.
Even though our Spring in AK looks much different from warmer climates, we choose to get out anyway and enjoy the journey.
We decided to take a day trip to Girdwood from Anchorage. The Mts. in Girdwood are majestic.
It is home to the Alyeska Ski Resort. We did not get much snow this winter, so not the best ski season. But, it made for a nice hike in the woods. The kids didn't even need their snow boots. It was only 10 degrees, so snow pants, coat, hats and gloves were still required.
We enjoyed a 5 mile hike together in the forest and saw creeks, Mts. and waterfalls. It was so beautiful. The sun was shining bright and we felt alive. So happy together. After our hike in the woods, we went to the Bake Shop to warm up with homemade soup and bread. So good for the soul and the cold hands.
Hiking the Winner Creek Trail together was a happy start to our Spring Break.
Stephen & McKinley can always find a good tree trunk to sit on and turn it into a train, or a rocket ship.
Kids are so fun!
I caught McKinley monkeying around during our hike.
Time for a break. Good thing there were some cool stumps in the shape of a king and queens'
throne.
Chillin' out. So cozy in the tree chair.
Look at me!
Fresh air makes them smile or did they hear me say it's snack time?
It may look like a tackle, but I think Stephen is really trying to give his sister a hug.
He does love her. They are good buddies. I'm so grateful they have each other.
So sweet
This was a great tree trunk to play in
McKinley in her cocoon ready to fly free.
Here she comes. Fly McKinley, fly!
