Sage celebrated her 3rd birthday a few weeks ago. She was born on Jan 26, 2005. We love our 'little girl' so much! She definitely trained us to be good parents. We had to work on a lot of obedience, praise, treats, potty training, belly scratches, baths, brushing the teeth, going on walks, playing together, learning tricks, and giving her a lot of love! She is such a part of our family. She goes everywhere with us. If we drive into Anchorage, she comes along and we try and take her to play with a doggy friend or run at the school by Beth's home.
Sage is a wonderful companion. She senses when you are sad and comes up and lays at your feet or puts her head on your lap and looks into your eyes. She has comforted me many times. She entered our lives after I had been sick for a year. I know she was one of my gentle healers. She always listens when I need someone to talk to. She wags her tail with joy every time she sees me come home. She is so playful and full of fun. She even walks in a "heel" position for me now.
We celebrated her birthday with ice cream (in Grandpas' honor, of course.) She could hardly wait for us to finish singing "Happy Birthday" before she licked up her dish of ice cream. We told her to "wait" while we sang and she obeyed. She is a good example for Stephen and he loves her dearly. She tolerates him climbing all over her and sitting by her. She is so careful w/ him. It's amazing!
We are grateful Heavenly Father created such wonderful creatures.
Sage is such a tender mercy to me. I pray she lives many years. I know we are fortunate if she makes it to 8 years or more. The thought of that brings me to tears already. I know the day she passes on to a new journey of life will be a heartbreaker for our family. But, we know, she will cross "the rainbow bridge" (I'll find this poem about dogs and attach it later) and be with us again. We are a FOREVER family!
Love,
Kary

I remember you were at my house in Spokane when you were deciding whether or not to get Sage. ;-)
I am glad you have found an animal to love. I am still searching for my inner animal lover. I have an issue with animal hair, I have yet to overcome it -- maybe someday. I do have a goal in life to one day own a cow. Yup, Mooooooooo! It will be an outdoor cow so we do not get cow-hair on the couch! ;-)
I am sure Sage will go to Puppy-Heaven, she is a good doggy. Just make sure she says her prayers!
I remember when our fish Dorothy died we went to a near-by river and set her free (for the kids sake). I am sure she will one day be swimming around in our fish-bowl in Heaven. :-)
