Highland hike

A few weeks ago, our family took a hike up in the April Bowl in the Hatcher Pass Mountains.
It was a glorious day.  Ray and Stephen decided to honor their Scottish heritage and hike in the Highlands with their kilts on.  I have come to accept that Ray loves wearing his kilt.  And, of course, Stephen wants to be cool like Daddy, so he's all for it too.
Well, who would have thought that because Ray was wearing his kilt that we would meet some of our Murdoch ancestors up on top of the mountain.  When they saw Ray, they said:  "Scotland, right?"  What clan?  etc…..Anyway, come to find out, they are descendants of Wee Granny too.  So, I must thank Ray for rockin' the kilt that day.

Hope you enjoy the journey with us through the many photos below:

Ray and Stephen giving some knuckle bumps for making it to the big rock.

Stephen loves trail running.

Leapin' legs!  Is he pole vaulting?  Go Ray go!

The girls…no skirts/kilts required.  Pink hats only!  ;  )

I've never used a walking stick before on a hike, but Ray brought this one along and he
handed it to me for the hike down.  I was glad he did.  It helped ease the pressure on my knee that was tender.

Cold, cold lake….feels so good on the feet.

Ray and Stephen eventually go for a dip with shirts off, but I decided to keep this blog G rated, so
those photos are for immediate family only.  ;  )

McKinley is thinking about stepping in.

Ahhhh!  This feels good.

Happy feet.  Super smile!

McKinley loved using the walking stick

Buddies forever!

Climb every Mountain!

Fjord every stream!

Let the sun shine on you, till you find your dream!

Happy hikers; especially Sage.  She is a Bernese Mountain Dog.  She is at home here.  Look
at her smile.

Sage is really smiling now. The rest of us are blinded by the sunlight.

The view from the top!  Yes, Denali (Mt. McKinley) was out in all her glory!  We kept telling McKinley if she could hike just a little further, we could see her Mountain. We gave her a snack and she was ready to go.  She was so happy when she saw this amazing sight.  Look at those 4 layers of mountains.  Just amazing!

We love our Sage!

Where's McKinley?

Peek a boo!

Yahoo!  I did it!

This ROCKS!!!!!!

So happy together

That is crazy that you met a Wee Granny descendant! However, at this point there are thousands of people who come from her line! Who says one person does not make a difference? This is awesome, and so beautiful. I wonder what has come over Ray to be so into his family history? There is nothing more powerful than knowing who you are, and who you come from. I love the kilts! Maybe next time we come to Alaska I will get some for our boys, too, and a set of bagpipes of course, I am sure Daniel would play them for us. ;-) The pictures are breathtaking! Love you!

Okay, the kilts are *snap* fab-u-lous! Seriously, those two rock those kilts like they rock hiking that mountain. I love reading your blog and seeing the pictures.
